To the Golden Life

Actions, campfire talks and performance for exit, entry, transition.

Futur3 follows the old dream of getting out, but this time to really make EVERYTHING better. For this, the performers embark on their own personal path to the Golden Life: What are my longings? How do I really want to live? What do I need for that and how do I free myself from all the excess, the huge ecological footprint, the haste, the constantly bad consumer conscience and all the worries?

"
You think that I make myself poor by withdrawing from men, but in my solitude I have spun for myself a silken web like a butterfly chrysalis, and like a nymph I shall soon emerge as a more perfect being, worthy of a higher society. Through simplicity, usually called poverty, my life is concentrated and thus organised, a cosmos, whereas before it was inorganic and knotty."

Henry David Thoreau, from "Walden - Life in the Woods"

Press commentary

"So you can look forward to a touchingly personal evening, which at the same time promises a clever reflection on the concept of performance. Off to paradise!"

Konstanin Alexiou, City Review Cologne

"Futur3 stages it grippingly. It becomes very personal here - also a form of theatrical catharsis. I have heard a lot of text, seen original scenery and come away from this play reflecting: What does my "golden life" look like? What could I personally change on the way there?"

Peter Backhof, Deutschlandfunk

Info text

Crises are bubbling up in our society, and no one really knows when the big bang will come. But many are convinced that it will come. Our ecological footprint is like that of a giant, democracy and capitalism are on the brink. We work far too much and get sick from it.
Futur3 explores ways out of these entanglements, researches the great dropouts of our history and asks people who are already on the stepping stone to the "good life": Community founders, decelerators, meditators, silencers, consumer refuseniks, exchange economists...
Futur3 has found a true host for this project: Sri Ketan Rolf Tepel and his ParaDies in Cologne's Südstadt - a place as a total work of art, whose creator has for many years offered a free space for all activists and initiatives that want to rethink society. Ideal for an art project that researches and searches for what could give us and the world healing, strength and a new sense of wholeness.

For this, the performers and the team embark on several months of experiments to experience new ideas and movements and their relationship to our everyday lives. The results of these research journeys are made tangible for the guests in a theatrical walk through the grounds.
The process of creation is accompanied by many guests in the campfire talks, all of whom practise their particular exit and who tell about it and teach in the ParaDies: It's about meditation, consumerism, alternative communities and the barter economy. In short, the guests show us new ways to get a little closer to the good life.
